Perfect Combo Sets the Stage for Success

With a master's degree already on his mind, the MMU Plus and teaching licensure pathway are the perfect combination for Trey Beckman.

MMU: What attracted you to Mount Mercy? Why did you decide to enroll in the accelerated program and the second-degree licensure pathway?

TB: I was attracted to MMU because of the second degree and MAEd programs. The small learning community in my hometown was a plus as well. I decided to enroll because the program gives me the ability to get licensed and endorsed in two subjects while working towards a master’s degree.

MMU: What has your experience in the licensure pathway been like? What has enabled you to be successful?

TB: So far it has been intensive, but the instructors are always there to help. My previous experience in schools and other university programs have enabled me to be successful as well.

MMU: How did you hear about the MMU Plus program? What was your reaction to hearing about the program?

TB: I heard about MMU Plus through a family friend. The friend reached out because they knew I was in a position where MMU Plus might be helpful. When I heard about the program and researched it more, I was excited.

MMU: What do you see as the main benefit from participating in the MMU Plus program? Would you recommend it to students who aren’t currently planning on pursuing a graduate degree?

TB: The fact that I can work towards two endorsements in education and make progress towards my MAEd is an opportunity unlike any I have seen before. I would recommend this program to anybody I know.

MMU: Have you decided to continue on to roll into the Master of Arts in Education program? Why or why not?

TB: Yes, I hope to finish my Master's in Special Education by next year or the following year.

MMU: What are some clear takeaways you have from the MAEd so far?

TB: The professors I have had are incredibly effective because they are also active teachers themselves. There is no one better to learn from in my opinion.

The fact that I can work towards two endorsements in education and make progress towards my MAEd is an opportunity unlike any I have seen before. I would recommend this program to anybody I know.
